TELESCOPE PROTOTYPE “SERENDIPITY” TAKES FORM

Efforts continue on the greatly-reduced cost telescope development of Hubble1474. There has been a learning curve on basic principles of telescope optics and equipment, just to produce useful imagery at the eyepiece. As part of that learning process, below exhibits some examples of pictures from a Droid camera phone on a regular 8 inch Dobsonian telescope, with 25mm magnifying eyepiece, with minimal image processing. Pictures taken from highly light-polluted, urban environment.

The main reflector design has undergone tests with remarkable success. The large aperture, low-cost design concept is proven and works, with only minor issues so far. Now the design effort involves building the rest of a working telescope prototype.
